Demospongiae
The Class Demospongiae contains about 90% of all sponges, including some of the largest and most brightly colored forms as well as the bath sponges. The spicules (when present) are siliceous but not six-rayed as they are in the glass sponges. All members of the group have the leuconoid body. Although most species are marine the class also contains about 150 freshwater species.
